The "Wilderness First Aid (WFA)" textbook supports a 16-hour course that prepares you to recognize and avoid wilderness hazards, and do first aid with whatever you have or can improvise. You learn how to prevent and treat problems caused by exposure to heat, cold, altitude, lightning strike, biological hazards, and medical conditions that can turn into emergencies, as well as practicing wound care and improvised splinting. You also learn how to do a complete assessment of a patient with serious problems, and then put your skills together in a series of role-playing simulated accidents
