This AMTA E-course, Ethical Foundations: An Overview of AMTA Code of Ethics, walks learners through a self-study review of each section of the Code of Ethics of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA, 2013) as well as a review of the preamble, the introduction, and the general standards of the AMTA Standards of Practice document (AMTA, 2013). The final section of the e-course provides some real-life scenarios raising ethical questions for consideration by the e-course learners. The Ethical Foundations e-course is designed to equip each listener with the basic knowledge necessary for providing music therapy services in an ethical manner, and fulfills requirements by the Certification Board for Music Therapists for earning three CMTE credits focusing specifically on ethics in each 5-year recertification cycle.

Participants listen to the audio discussion at their leisure. If they choose to earn 3 CMTE credits from AMTA, a CBMT Approved Provider, participants simply need to submit a CMTE Evaluation after listening to the audio and completing the course. Includes 3 CMTE credits for music therapy professionals. AMTA is a pre-approved provider (#P-051) with CBMT and maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT policies and criteria. E-course publish date: May 2014.
