Interest in rigorous evidence for practices is relatively new to the field of child welfare, but social work professionals are increasingly emphasizing the need for empirical evidence to improve outcomes for children and families. This special issue of Child Welfare focuses on the evidence-based practices regarding the federal child welfare outcomes: safety, permanence, and well-being. Building evidence is a long-term process, and this issue illustrates critical issues and provides direction for future research in the field.
