This class explores the differences between digitized (scanned) and born digital materials, as well as the cataloging process, highlighting differences in RDA from AACR2 cataloging, using lecture, demonstration, discussion and examples to teach descriptive cataloging of resources born digital including websites, theses and dissertations, ebooks, serials, and more.

 

The ever-increasing popularity of the Internet has made librarians' participation in cataloging online resources crucial. In this class, we'll introduce the cataloging process and use lecture, demonstration, discussion to teach descriptive cataloging of resources born digital. Resources discussed will be those born digital such as websites, pdfs and others. Tips on searching for records in OCLC, copy cataloging, choosing the right format and cataloging policy issues are also covered.

 

Intended Audience:
Cataloging staff/copy catalogers, cataloging supervisors who train, acquisitions staff who need to understand basic cataloging information related to ebooks, staff at small libraries who primarily copy catalog materials; all staff who need to understand bibliographic information related to electronic resources.
