After years of discussion, prototypes and predictions - Augmented and Virtual Reality are on the cusp of changing how we live, work and play. During this presentation, we will explore:
The two technologies: what are they and where are they today in libraries
Where are they both going in the near and far-off future
How libraries both big and small play a key role in helping our users engage and use these two technologies.
Presenters: Bob Anstett, Broward County Libraries and Diana Silveira, Novare Library Services
Robert “BOB” Anstett is the Coordinator for Digital Initiatives for Broward County Libraries. Bob is in charge of the Creation Station at Main Library in Fort Lauderdale as well as Creation Station Business and other creative spaces around the County. Bob likes to say that he “lives in the future” where he gets to work with 3D printing, creative design, hands on maker projects and robotics. He is currently organizing and running a robotics track for the public to learn coding and building robots, as well as a Virtual Reality (VR) track with an Oculus Rift & HTC Vive along with other VR & Augmented Reality (AR) gear such as a Microsoft HoloLens available for the public to try out and develop on. Bob works at building connections with the local community and the library, along with fostering cooperation between libraries around the State of Florida and beyond.
Diana Silveira is the President of Novare Library Services, a company that focuses on web, mobile and infrastructure services for libraries. Previous to starting Novare Library Services, she was the Virtual Reference Manager for Florida’s Ask a Librarian Service and coordinator for Florida’s Statewide Delivery System. She presents regularly on implementing technology, best practices and privacy issues online. She also works with libraries to deploy new technologies and develop new mobile and desktop websites.
