The primary tool that trustees and other fiduciaries use to evaluate and make decisions regarding "in-force" and potential new life insurance policies is the illustration ledger provided the life insurance company. While most advisors have a working knowledge of the fundamental aspects of a life insurance illustration such as premium schedules, cash value growth, insurance charges, changes in crediting rates, etc., there are many elements of contracts and illustrations that are not intuitive, but may have a significantly negative impact on the policy owner and beneficiaries.  This presentation walks through several actual life insurance illustrations that we have evaluated to illustrate some of these less-obvious potential pitfalls to help trustees and fiduciaries become better informed when reviewing an existing policy or evaluating the purchase of a new one.
