The Game Changer: Maintenance of Vascularity in Surgical Procedures
(Event: 2016 Western and Central Districts Meeting: Expanding Opportunities)

Apr 09, 2016 3:30pm - Apr 09, 2016 4:10pm
Session Type: Main Podium
Track: AGD Subject Code 315

Description

Ridge resorption after tooth loss, to some degree, is unavoidable. With the proper site preservation techniques, the amount ot resorption may be limited. After such procedures, however, we are often in a position where there is adequate bone for implant insertions, but the residual site is still devoid of proper root contour. In the more severe situation, where a large volume of bone is lost, it is currently very challenging to regain hard tissue width and height. There are multiple factors that will influence the success of any augmentation procedures. This presentation will examine the importance of maintaining vascularity in the soft tissue management of the sites. Two concepts will be presented that will help the implant surgeon achieve better results. The first one is the buccal vascularized inversion flar; the second is the concept of remote incision and tunneling.

Learning Objectives: At completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
1. Understand the concept of remote incision
2. Understand the concept of vascularized flaps
3. Be familiar with a simple technique to enhance connective tissue around
single tooth implants
