Post extraction ridge collapse and loss of attached gingiva is inevitable. Maintenance of buccal contour has beneficial effects from an esthetic perspective as well as minimizing the potential of food impaction into a buccal concavity at the implant site. The Vascularized Buccal Inversion Flap ( VBIF ) is a simple technique for correction of buccal defects while avoiding many common shortcomings of traditional augmentation techniques. It will consistently enhance the aesthetic and clinical outcome around implant sites. Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to: 1. Identify clinical situations where the VBIF is applicable. 2. Understand the advantages of the VBIF compared to traditional soft tissue augmentation techniques. 3. Understand how to perform the VBIF.
