Committees Leadership

A list of our committees is presented below:
  • Advocacy & Coalitions Committee
    ASHA’s mission is to transform all schools into places where every student learns and thrives. To accomplish this mission, the ASHA Board of Directors has adopted strategic goals to lead, educate and activate: Goal 1: Lead efforts to prioritize school-based approaches that promote lifelong health. Goal 2: Build a community to support the whole child. Goal 3: Activate champions of school health. ASHA’s organizational committees exist to plan, implement, and coordinate programmatic activities in support of this mission and goals. Because ASHA has a limited capacity to engage in direct lobbying work, the purpose of the Advocacy & Coalitions Committee is to build partnerships with national level coalitions and other partners to influence public policy on issues of importance to ASHA’s mission. This committee also works to educate and empower the ASHA membership to act on school health policy issues at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • ASHA School Violence Taskforce
    The ASHA School Violence Taskforce is hereby charged with conceiving of, creating, and proposing strategies to advance a nationwide response to the epidemic of gun violence in schools.

ASHA’s organizational committees exist to plan, implement, and coordinate programmatic activities in support of this mission and goals. The purpose of the Leadership and Recognition Committee is to help support goals two and three above by recognizing leaders and champions in school health, developing their skills, and to support academic pursuits of young school health professionals through scholarships.
  • Networking Communities Team
    ASHA’s mission is to transform all schools into places where every student learns and thrives. To accomplish this mission, the ASHA Board of Directors has adopted strategic goals to lead, educate and activate: Goal 1: Lead efforts to prioritize school-based approaches that promote lifelong health. Goal 2: Build a community to support the whole child. Goal 3: Activate champions of school health. ASHA’s organizational committees exist to plan, implement, and coordinate programmatic activities in support of this mission and goals. The purpose of the Networking Communities Committee is to plan, implement, and evaluate virtual networking opportunities for ASHA’s members and the wider school health professional community. This committee shall also advise the ASHA staff on best practices for use of ASHA’s social media profiles, website, the school health blog, newsletters, and other communication platforms.
  • Professional Development Committee
    ASHA’s mission is to transform all schools into places where every student learns and thrives. To accomplish this mission, the ASHA Board of Directors has adopted strategic goals to lead, educate and activate: Goal 1: Lead efforts to prioritize school-based approaches that promote lifelong health. Goal 2: Build a community to support the whole child. Goal 3: Activate champions of school health. ASHA’s organizational committees exist to plan, implement, and coordinate programmatic activities in support of this mission and goals. The purpose of the Professional Development Committee is to work in collaboration with ASHA staff and conference planning contractor to plan and implement year-round professional development opportunities for school health professionals including the Annual ASHA conference, monthly webinars, self-studies, and any new opportunities that may emerge.
  • Research & Publications Committee
    ASHA’s mission is to transform all schools into places where every student learns and thrives. To accomplish this mission, the ASHA Board of Directors has adopted strategic goals to lead, educate and activate: Goal 1: Lead efforts to prioritize school-based approaches that promote lifelong health. Goal 2: Build a community to support the whole child. Goal 3: Activate champions of school health. ASHA’s organizational committees exist to plan, implement, and coordinate programmatic activities in support of this mission and goals. The purpose of the Research & Publications Committee is to solicit, curate, disseminate, and promote research in the field of school health. These activities help ASHA leadership better understand how to lead change efforts and provided the bases of how best to build communities to support school health, this work is directly connected to goals one and two.
