Energy & Climate Change Special Interest Group: Changing World of Infrastructure
The Energy & Climate Change Special Interest Group (SIG) is pleased to welcome David Katz to spend the evening of Oct. 17 with us. David will provide his insights into the rapidly changing world of energy infrastructure and buildings, and how this affects business and our lives.
He will touch on areas such as recent developments in Smart Grid, Low Carbon Buildings, and recent technology developments in the built environment.
Our built environment is the 4th highest contributor of GHG emissions in Canada (soon to be 3rd) and there are many changes coming that will affect our lives and our clients’ businesses. Are you prepared for them? Are you aware of them? What advice should you be providing?
David Katz is an expert in energy and the built environment. He was one of the early professionals to recognize the climate change threat and to take action. He established Sustainable Resources Management and has been consulting on energy management, building automation and smart grid opportunities for many years. He is a member of the Ontario Smart Grid Forum Corporate Partners Committee and other expert committees, and is a former electric power and emissions broker.
There is a tremendous amount of progress being made in energy efficiency and carbon reduction, from energy generation, storage, transportation, to usage in industrial and consumer sectors. One of the largest drivers for change are the demands of corporate users wanting to reduce their costs and achieve their zero carbon goals. A large area is one of the major sources of carbon emissions - buildings. The opportunities for reducing carbon emissions and reducing costs are significant, and the responding development of technologies is happening at an amazing rate targeting a wide variety of areas.
As per our usual meetings, we will be identifying and discussing key energy and climate change advancements (and some retrenching) that have occurred over the last few months.
Food will be provided at the meeting. Drinks will be available at an additional charge.
