COSA Leadership

The COSA Board of Directors and the four department (OACOA, OASE, OASSA and OESPA) Executive Committees make up the leadership of our organization.

  • COSA Board of Directors
    The Confederation of Oregon School Administrators is an umbrella organization comprised of four departments: 1) Oregon Association of School Executives (OASE), 2) Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA), 3) Oregon Elementary School Principals Association (OESPA), and 4) Oregon Association of Central Office Administrators (OACOA). The COSA president, president-elect and past-president sit on the COSA Board of Directors, as do the current president and president-elect of each department.
  • OACOA Executive Committee
    Oregon Association of Central Office Administrators (OACOA) membership is open to any supervisory personnel who are excluded from the bargaining unit and whose job descriptions are to coordinate, supervise, and/or evaluate instructional programs, curriculum and/or personnel. This includes Administrators, Directors of Human Resources/Personnel, Directors of Student Services, Directors of Special Education, Business Managers, Coordinators of Special Programs, Curriculum Directors, Special Education Coordinators, Athletic Directors, Technology Directors and IT/IS. The purpose of the executive committee is to provide opportunities for increasing the competence of persons engaged in supervisory activities in Oregon schools; provide an organizational framework which represents supervisors in statewide education discussion and decisions; and encourage professional communication among members. Elections for OACOA officers are held annually. OACOA presidents serve three years (as president-elect, president and past-president). OACOA regional and at-large representatives serve three-year terms.
  • OASE Executive Committee
    Oregon Association of School Executives (OASE) serves licensed school administrators who are directly responsible to a board of education; who serve as superintendents, or as a deputy, associate, area or assistant superintendent; and who are district level directors in personnel, business management or collective bargaining. OASE includes the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and deputies or assistants to that office. The purpose of the executive committee is to serve members in a continuous effort to improve education and educational administration through striving: * to exercise leadership in promoting the best interests of all education; * to improve educational programs through studies of problems and developments in areas selected by its membership; * to direct and sponsor in-service programs and activities designed to improve the effectiveness of its members in performing their various roles as administrators; and * to work cooperatively with other organizations - within and out of the profession - when goals are to improve public education. Elections for OASE officers are held annually. OASE presidents serve three years (as president-elect, president and past-president). OASE Zone Directors serve three-year terms.
  • OASSA Executive Committee
    Oregon Association of Secondary Administrators (OASSA) serves those administrators who are actively engaged in the administration or supervision of secondary and middle schools/students. Membership includes principals and vice principals of middle schools, junior highs, high schools and all other levels of administrators in the secondary school. The purpose of the executive committee is: * to exercise leadership in promoting the best interest of secondary education in Oregon; and * to develop cooperation, professional growth, promote the general welfare of secondary school administrators and work cooperatively with the Oregon Board of Education and other groups, organizations and institutions in the support of public and private secondary education. Elections for OASSA officers are held annually. OASSA presidents serve three years (as president-elect, president and past-president) and NASSP Coordinator. OASSA members-at-large serve 2-year terms.
  • OESPA Executive Committee
    Oregon Elementary School Principals Association (OESPA) serves those administrators who are actively engaged in the administration or supervision of elementary and middle school students. Principals, vice principals of elementary and middle schools as well as other administrative personnel in the elementary and middle schools are eligible to become OESPA members. The purpose of the OESPA Executive Committee is: * to promote, improve and exert a leadership role for the educational welfare of Oregon's children; * to encourage continual professional growth among principals; * to work cooperatively with other organizations, institutions and individuals interested in education; and * to develop cooperation and fellowship among elementary school principals. Elections for OESPA officers are held annually. OESPA presidents serve three years (as president, president-elect, past-president). Other officers include six regional representatives, an NAESP representative and up to four appointed positions.
