Assessment Literacy: Formative, Intermediate, Summative

  • Dr. Rick Stiggins, President, Assessment Training Institute

Rick Stiggins will address the best use of formative, intermediate, and summative assessment models as we continue to reach for higher standards for teaching and learning.

School and District Team Planning

  • Mr. Peter Pappas, Educational Consultant, Designs for Learning

Peter Pappas will explain and demonstrate the best practices for student engagement in the new rigorous curriculum of the 21st century.

Emphasis on Reading/Writing Assessment and Instruction

  • Dr. Kevin Feldman, SCOE Director for Reading and Early Intervention

Kevin Feldman will focus on techniques and strategies for Secondary reading and Language Arts.  An inspirational and practical presentation that will help participants engage students.

Yolanda Westerberg, Literacy Consultant, Westerberg & Associates

Yolanda Westerberg will work with elementary participants to "plan" their year to best meet reading and writing standards.  Practical tools and strategies will be the focus of the workshop.

On Oregon's Path to College and Career-Ready Graduates: Districts Can Plan the Route

This interactive session will inform participants on the latest with Common Core State Standards Adoption, the SMARTER/Balanced Assessment, Essential Skills requirements, cut score changes, and more.  Participants will have an opportunity to share implementation ideas between districts.  Bring your best ideas and artifacts related to these initiatives.  This session will be informative for districts just beginning their journey and will provide a great opportunity to look ahead for the next for years.

Session I:      Working to Stop What Stops the Work (8:00 to 12:00)

Speaker:  Patty Parnell, Linn Benton Lincoln ESD

This session is intended to support the work of instructional coaches trained through the Direct Access to Achievement (DATA) Project. The goal of “Working to Stop What Stops the Work” is to increase team success – and therefore student success – by providing an opportunity for educators to:

·         become more skilled at valuable communication strategies

·         participate in candid dialogue about what does and doesn’t seem to work in the face of change or conflict

·         and to practice new learning in a safe environment.


Session II:    Toolkit for Accountability (1:00 to 3:00)

Speakers:      Google-certified Trainers

This session offers a tutorial on the Oregon DATA Project's Toolkit for Accountability. Certified Google trainers will be on hand to provide a hands-on training for the Google-based suite of accountability tools.  Open to all, no enrollment necessary. Session III:   Best Practices in Oregon (3:00 to 5:00)

Speaker: Mickey Garrison, Oregon Department of Education

Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) grant program report out and document information session.  Open to all, no enrollment necessary.


easyCBM Training:


Each summer Behavioral Research and Teaching conducts an August Institute for the district users of easyCBM.  This year’s Institute is scheduled at the University of Oregon, for August 1-2, 2011.
