The development of cyber security standards in the U.S. has proceeded on multiple fronts.  The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), pursuant to an executive order, has released a draft Cyber Security Framework.  The Department of Defense has established its voluntary Defense Industrial Base Cyber Security/Information Assurance program.  The Department of Homeland Security is the Federal government’s lead agency for identifying “critical infrastructure” and coordinating the protection of critical infrastructure from cyber incidents.   And Congress has considered multiple approaches to cyber security legislation.
