International Dimensions of Cybersecurity

 

The FCBA International Telecommunications Committee will hold a CLE on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:15 p.m. exploring the International Dimensions of Cybersecurity.  This program will be held at Wiley Rein LLP, 1776 K Street, NW.

 

The first panel will focus on cybersecurity issues implicated by international supply chains and their regulation, with a particular focus on telecommunications-related industries.  The second panel will focus on international standards-setting and interagency cooperation in addressing cybersecurity issues.  Both panels will feature a mix of government and industry experts, and provide insight into recent developments in these areas.

6:05 – 7:05 p.m.         A Multi-Stakeholder vs. Regulatory Approach to Cybersecurity
Network security has become an increasing focus of industry, consumers, and governments across the globe.  A major issue is whether cybersecurity is best achieved through a multi-stakeholder approach or through a more regulatory approach.  This panel will focus on the pros and cons of each approach as the United States and countries around the world struggle with best securing their networks.

7:15 – 8:15 p.m.         Securing the International Telecommunications Supply Chain
The U.S. Government has long sought to balance the need to secure the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure with the desire to ensure that service providers can leverage the most efficient and effective technologies in their networks.  In recent years, the U.S. Government has expressed concerns about the use of equipment sourced from certain foreign manufacturers, and the vulnerabilities that such use could introduce into networks.  This panel will examine these complex issues, and the broader policy implicated by international telecommunications supply chains.
