This course explores intermediate concepts in each chapter of the ICD-10-CM coding manual with chapter specific guidelines and lots of examples to increase your skills, proficiency, speed and accuracy in choosing the appropriate ICD-10 codes. Attendees will be able to demonstrate proficiency in complex coding scenarios and be ready to tackle home care charts back at the agency. We’ll also apply OASIS C-1/ICD-10-CM coding data items to scenarios so that home health participants will understand payment implications and compliance issues. With government auditors targeting homecare agencies, now is the time to ensure that you are coding correctly and protecting your revenue.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Explain the relevance of OASIS data items for diagnoses to payment.

2. Prioritize diagnoses based on clinical assessment and planned interventions.

3. Apply specific sequencing rules as required by the conventions and Official Coding Guidelines.

4. Explain coding of diagnoses of infections, neoplasms, endocrine disorders such as diabetes, anemias, mental disorders, and the nervous system.

5. Explain coding of diagnoses of cardio respiratory illnesses, cerebrovascular disease and GI & GU disorders.

 6. Explain coding of diagnoses of the musculoskeletal system, injuries and poisonings, including the optional use of V, W, X and Y codes.

7. Describe the purpose and appropriate use of Z codes.

8. Use the coding manual to find codes and sequence diagnoses for home care scenarios in ICD-10-CM.
