More Survey Sanctions, Penalties, and Even Suspension of Payments in 2015
The Tough New CMS Directives and Better Survey Preparation for 2015
A Louisiana home health agency shut its doors recently due to DHH survey deficiencies, suspension of payments, and penalties. That agency’s nurses are out looking for jobs and its patients have been admitted to other agencies. A CMS directive has state surveyors tightening up processes, increasing fines, and suspending payments. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) strengthening of state survey enforcement impacts every home health provider in the state. The HHS Office of Inspector General has criticized CMS of being lax with providers, and encouraged tougher response to survey deficiencies, including sanctions, immediate jeopardy, suspension of payments, and more.
Marian Tate will present these changes, implications of tough penalties, speak to frequent deficiencies in the use of Electronic Medical Records in the care coordination process, and more:
* Alternative sanctions means Home Health Agencies With Deficiencies
* Civil Money Penalties (CMP) - per day or per instance up to $8,500 to $10,000/day
* Suspension of payment for new admissions (SPNA)
* Directed in-service (DIS)
* Directed plan of correction (DPOC)
* Temporary management (TM)
