Q&A WITH ALLEN ALBUS, 2013 RONALD E. EVERETT DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT

Q: What does being chosen to receive the Distinguished Service Award mean to you?
A: I consider Dr. Ron Everett to be one of my mentors. I also believe that the Members and Service Associates of Illinois ASBO are some of the highest caliber individuals you could ever find. To receive recognition that is named after a personal mentor, and from an Association of individuals that I hold in the highest esteem, is truly the highlight of my career. It is something that I will always cherish, and forever be grateful for.

Q: What advice would you give to those that aspire to follow in your footsteps?
A: Get involved! No matter what level of commitment you make to the Association, the benefits you get back will be exponentially greater.

Q: Can you please share your thoughts on the mission and importance of the Illinois ASBO Foundation?
A: The Illinois ASBO Foundation is about the advancement of the school business profession. Because Illinois ASBO members foster a best practice mentality, we all benefit when others succeed. The recognitions, scholarships, and grants highlight best practices, help individuals grow, and support worthwhile activities.

Q: How has your involvement within Illinois ASBO shaped your career?
A: By providing opportunities for professional development, professional networking, and in many cases life-long friendships.

Q: What are your thoughts on the value of recognizing Service Associates as partners in the profession?
A: From my experience, Illinois ASBO is one of the strongest ASBO affiliates in the nation. The professional development and the services that the Association provides are second to none. I believe that is true in large part to the integral role that Illinois ASBO Service Associates have in the Association. They are part of its very fabric. That needs to be recognized and celebrated, because as long as it is true, Illinois ASBO will continue to be a national leader.
