Annual Life Safety Code Update:
Hot Topics for Skilled Nursing Facilities
Wednesday, June 21, 2017
Royal Plaza Best Western, Marlborough
8:30 a.m. — 12:00 p.m.
(Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. )
Almost one year after the CMS adoption of the 2012 NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, several challenges impacting skilled nursing facilities have been identified. These challenges include the requirement that skilled nursing facilities conduct a risk assessment of their critical systems to determine what sections of the code apply to their facility based on the levels of identified risk. Essentially, an assessment is required to determine the impact that the loss of a particular utility or system will have on Life Safety conditions within your facility. Additional challenges facing skilled nursing facilities include the requirement for annual fire door inspections, changes in the Fire Safety Evaluation System (FSES) and electrical and receptacle testing and patient care related equipment. This workshop will review all of these areas and provide skilled nursing facilities with information and/or strategies to meet these challenges.
At the conclusion of this seminar, participants will:
- Understand the risk assessment process to identify levels of risk in their facility;
- Understand the annual fire door inspection requirement; and
- Understand the changes to the Fire Safety Evaluation System.
