Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 9:00 am –4:30 pm at MSPP

An in-depth policy discussion of some of the psychosocial impact of  war upon our military; the challenges facing veterans, their families and the country as they reintegrate into a civilian life; and what we can and should do to help.

The Program

9:00      Understanding the Challenges of Integration for OEF-OIF-OND Veterans

Dr. Terence Keane, Director of the Behavioral Science Division of the National Center for PTSD;  Professor and vice-Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, Boston University School of Medicine

10:00    Women in the Military

Dr. Amy Street, Clinical psychologist with the Women’s Health Sciences Division of the National Center for PTSD,  Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Boston University School of Medicine.

               The Problem of Suicide

Dr. Ronald Kessler, McNeil Family Professor of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School, Principal Investigator of the National Co-morbidity Survey, Principal Investigator of the Army STARRS Project.

11:30     MSPP’s Military & Veterans Psychology (MVP) Emphasis

Dr. Robert Dingman, MSPP faculty member, Director of MSPP’s Military & Veterans Psychology Emphasis; licensed psychologist with experience in treating trauma, family therapy and military psychology.

Dr. Gerald Sweet, MSPP faculty member, faculty of MSPP’s Military & Veterans Psychology Emphasis; licensed psychologist with experience in treating trauma, family therapy and military and police psychology.

Congresswoman Ladda Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, an American hero who survived severe combat wounds while deployed as an Army helicopter pilot in Iraq; LT. Colonel in the Illinois National Guard, former Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs and Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, US Representative from Illinois 8th Congressional District.

Mr. Anthony “Tony” Jimenez, Founder, President & CEO of MicroTech, an award-winning Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) that specializes in technology integration, providing innovative solutions to both public and private sectors; a decorated, retired U.S. Army officer with 24 years of service and recognized entrepreneur.

Dr. Naomi Simon, Board-certified psychiatrist and Director of the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders at Massachusetts General Hospital, Chief Medical Officer of the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program and Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School
