Cultivating Well-Being through Positive Psychology and Strength-Based Practices

Nov 01, 2013 9:00am -
Nov 01, 2013 4:30pm

Event Description

Claire Fialkov, Ph.D. and David Haddad, Ed.D., instructors

Well-being is described as the goal of positive psychology, critical to human flourishing. This workshop draws upon the foundations of Positive Psychology, Appreciative Inquiry, and strength-based practices. Positive Psychology is the scientific study of what makes life most worth living, by emphasizing the positive emotions, thought patterns and relationships that contribute to human flourishing. Appreciative Inquiry asks questions about what we want more of in ourselves, in our relationships and in our communities. This workshop will help you identify and cultivate those qualities that strengthen your capacity for well-being. We will introduce participants to the VIA classification of character strengths and explore ways to use this new language of strengths in practice with individuals, groups and communities. Join with other mental health, teaching and organizational development professionals in this highly experiential workshop designed to enhance self-compassion and enrich the work we do and the lives we envision. This workshop is appropriate for clinicians, caseworks, educators, program staff and administrators, and other professionals involved in the delivery of human services. The workshop format includes lecture, group discussion and experiential learning.
