Event Description

BY INVITATION ONLY - FULL

Carol D. Goodheart, Ed.D., instructor

This program offers an overview of the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases (ICD); an introduction to the ICD-10-CM set of diagnostic codes that will be required for billing and health information in the United States on October 1, 2014; and a preview of ICD-11 which is currently under development. The relationship of the ICD classification to the DSM classification is discussed and contrasts between the two systems are presented.

Upon completion of the program the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of diagnostic classification systems.
  • Identify the two HIPAA approved code sets for the United States.
  • Review the coding format of the ICD-10-CM and how to locate commonly used codes for their practices.
  • Describe the relevance of the new codes for their health care practices.
  • Identify the most important feature for clinicians in the forthcoming next version, the ICD-11.
