BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a full time professional veterinary position, directing and overseeing poultry, livestock and, at times, domestic animal disease control programs for the State of Maine. Work involves directing or executing the enforcement of regulatory laws and implementing programs concerning animal health, animal welfare, human public health and disease control. The work performed is highly technical and specialized and employee receives no technical supervision for standard veterinary activities. Additional training to perform specific functions beyond typical veterinary repertoire (eg forensics, meat inspection, incident command) may be required as determined by the supervisor. Training may require out-of-state travel for extended periods. Work is performed in concert with other state veterinarians, and is performed under administrative direction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A current license to practice veterinary medicine and one (1) year of professional veterinarian experience beyond such licensure. Additional Requirements: As a conditional offer of employment is made, the candidate selected for this position must obtain a State of Maine Veterinary License before being able to perform the duties of this position. Clinical Pathology Instructor Needed: York Community College is looking for a Clinical Pathology instructor for this fall in Wells.  This is a course for veterinary technology students where they will study laboratory techniques and procedures used in evaluating veterinary clinical samples. This will include hematology, urinalysis, parasitology, cytology, serology, microbiology, blood coagulation, blood biochemistry, and immunologic tests as well as any other topics related to essential American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) skills assigned to this course. The veterinary technician's role in sample collection, sample storage and handling and performance of analytic procedures will be emphasized.
