Membership Categories

 

DISTINGUISHED FELLOWS

 

Distinguished Fellows shall require nomination by self or colleague; application, review and recommendation by the Academy of their profession; and a majority vote of the members of the NAP Council. Nominees shall be individuals who have an exemplary career of ten years or more, and are committed to interprofessional practice and accessible, affordable healthcare for all. Applicants are judged by distinguished peers to have made significant and enduring contributions in their profession. Election as a Distinguished Fellow shall be for life, upon annual payment of membership dues.

 

 

Distinguished Practitioner and Fellow, FNAP
Elected individuals who have spent a significant portion of their professional career in the practice and direct delivery of health care services.

 

Distinguished Scholar and Fellow, FNAP
Elected individuals who have academic achievements such as significant and enduring educational and/or research contribution to practice.

 

Distinguished Public Policy Fellow, FNAP
Elected individuals who have made a significant and enduring public policy contribution to healthcare practice.

 

Affiliate Members
Elected individuals who are Distinguished Practitioners, Scholars, or Public Policy Fellows but are not citizens of the United States. Affiliate members who attain United States citizenship may advance to their appropriate category provided a membership opening exists in their Academy.

 

 

 

HONORARY FELLOWS
Individuals who are judged by their Academies and the Council to have made a significant and enduring non-professional contribution to healthcare practice. NAP Academies make nomination and recommendation for Honorary Fellowship.

 

 

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

Healthcare professionals from any field who take interest in interdisciplinary healthcare issues. Individuals may be practitioners or scholars with sufficient credentials to indicate promising careers in practice, education, research, or public policy. Associate membership does not require nomination, review or approval. Associate members do not receive the prized NAP medallions or certificates and do not enjoy the full benefits of distinguished fellowship.

 

 

Membership Status


Active Members of NAP are those who have paid annual membership dues and are therefore eligible to use the credential FNAP or SFNAP.


Inactive Members of NAP are those who have not paid annual membership dues and are no longer eligible to use the NAP credentials. Inactive members may renew their membership at any time, as long as a membership opening exists in their Academy.


 

Membership Distinction

 

NAP Distinguished Fellows may be awarded further distinction by review and recommendation by the Academy of their profession. There are currently two types of distinction that can be awarded to NAP Distinguished Fellows for extraordinary service to his or her profession and/or to NAP.

 

Carlton Horbelt Senior Fellowship
NAP Distinguished Fellows may apply for Senior Fellowship and shall submit information for review and recommendation by their Academy, and be awarded distinction by vote of the NAP Council.

 

Applicants for Senior Fellowship pay an application fee, and upon approval by Council, pay an annual membership dues premium. Upon payment of Senior Fellowship dues, their membership category is changed to:

 

   Distinguished Practioner and Senior Fellow, SFNAP
   Distinguished Scholar and Senior Fellow, SFNAP
   Distinguished Public Policy Senior Fellow, SFNAP

 

Emeritus Fellows
NAP Distinguished Fellows may be nominated for Emeritus Fellowship by their NAP peers. To be eligible for nomination, an NAP Distinguished Fellow is

 

   Retired from full practice in their profession;
   Are disabled or reach or exceed the age of seventy (70);
   Who have paid membership dues for at least the previous five (5) years; and
   Who have participated in NAP leadership

 

 

The nominator must submit a letter of reference for review and recommendation by the Academy of the nominee’s profession. Upon approval by Council and payment of reduced membership dues, the nominee becomes:

 

   Distinguished Practioner and Fellow-Emeritus, FNAP
   Distinguished Scholar and Fellow-Emeritus, FNAP
   Distinguished Public Policy Fellow-Emeritus, FNAP

 

Please note that NAP Distinguished Fellows awarded Emeritus status prior to 2013 continue to be Emeritus Fellows, and are not required to pay membership dues. We thank these members who continue to make voluntary donations to NAP!
