NASL’s Summary and Analysis of the CY 2019 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule

NASL, 12/21/2018

NASL recently sent out our detailed Summary & Analysis of the CY 2019 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule, which was published to the Federal Register on November 23rd.  The Final Rule is effective January 1, 2019, for CY 2019.

In addition to the policies affecting Part B outpatient therapy, portable x-ray services, and the calculation of payment rates for Part B services, CMS’ Final Rule also provides that physical and occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists are now eligible to participate under the Merit-Based Payment System (MIPS).  However, because therapists who work in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) operate using institutional-based billing lack the requisite rendering practitioner’s National Provider Identifier (NPI) needed on claims to participate in the MIPS program, CMS says that SNFs are not eligible to report under MIPS.
