NASL Summary & Analysis - CY19 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule

NASL, 8/15/2018

NASL recently shared our detailed Summary & Analysis of the CY2019 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule, which was published to the Federal Register on July 31, 2018. The Proposed Rule would take effect January 1, 2019, for CY2019.

In addition to policies affecting Part B outpatient therapy, portable x-ray services, and the calculation of payment rates for Part B services, CMS’ proposal also includes a major change for rehab therapy providers with the proposed elimination of CMS’ collection of unstandardized functional limitation reporting using G codes. This is something for which NASL has long advocated.

Furthermore, the Proposed Rule does not appear to target therapy codes as potentially misvalued, and it adds procedures to the list of covered telehealth services, along with a number of other new policies as CMS begins to ponder how it will address therapist reporting under the MACRA’s Quality Payment Program (QPP).

CMS is accepting comments on the Proposed Rule until September 10, 2018, and will respond to comments in the Final Rule.  NASL will be preparing comments in response to the Proposed Rule, and NASL member input is always welcome.
