Data-Driven Approaches to Improving Value of Rehabilitation for Short- and Long-Term Residents

Sunday, October 9 | 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM

In recent years, the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS) has implemented or is in the process of implementing several changes to the skilled nursing facility (SNF) Medicare Part A fee-for-service payment system with the introduction of the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM), and updates to SNF quality reporting program (QRP) and public reporting measures, and the SNF value-based purchasing (VBP) incentive program.  Concurrently, providers have seen a rapid growth in accountable care relationship payment programs like Medicare Advantage (MA) and accountable care organizations (ACOs).  Per CMS, in 2020, 67% of Medicare beneficiaries were in MA plans or were attributed to an ACO through either a CMS Innovation Center model or the Shared Savings Program, and the CMS stated Innovation Center strategy is for all Medicare fee-for-service programs, including SNF, to be participating in accountable care relationship programs by 2030.  These programs all rely on significant amounts of data associated with patient characteristics and care delivery that are used to assess performance on key care quality, patient experience, and cost efficiency factors that demonstrate the value of care and permit performance comparisons across providers.  It is incumbent on SNF operators, and clinical leadership including in-house or contracted rehabilitation therapy professionals to establish internal data-driven approaches to demonstrate the value of rehabilitation services for both short- and long-term residents.

This 4-hour program is designed to be informative for SNF and therapy company leadership and therapists.  The day will include presentations from innovation leaders followed by interactive panel discussions with session attendees.  The presenters will take a deep dive into the various analytic approaches they have taken to improve care and demonstrate value.  The focus will be on novel and successful approaches using data and published research currently available to the provider that innovators have been able to leverage and/or repurpose to improve care and demonstrate the value of rehabilitation approaches at a building or company level that improve outcomes, reduce cost, and improve patient satisfaction.  Topics likely covered include concurrent and group therapy use, telehealth, nutritional intake approaches, and achieving functional outcomes improvements in fewer days.
