In this session, Linda Sekhon, DHSc, PA-C defines fibromyalgia, describes the pathogenesis, and outlines the clinical features of fibromyalgia in the adult population to include identifying the criteria for classification from the American College of Rheumatology. Also discussed is differential diagnosis and diagnostic approach to a patient with suspected fibromyalgia. An outline is provided for current pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment options for patients with fibromyalgia to include the importance of patient education. Lastly, referral assessment is covered, including appropriately selecting a specialty consultant when indicated.
