Event Description

The written requirements of career and technical Approved Program Evaluation (APE) are full of an assumed understanding of how career and technical education differs from any planned course of study for an academic course, such as algebra or a world language.  This PIL program will use the requirements of Chapter 4, Chapter 339, and Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act of July 31, 2018, known as Perkins V, as the primary resources and guides for helping academically trained administrators survive and thrive in a career and technical education setting.

This PIL program is written for the audience of administrators serving or aspiring to serve in a career and technical education setting who have not previously served as a career and technical education teacher.  It focuses on three areas highly related to student achievement:  Section 1 (3 hours):  Governance of the CTE program, which includes personnel and CTE teacher certification, articles of agreement, joint operating committee, occupational and local advisory committee, professional advisory committee, and career and technical subsidy.  Section 2 (5 hours):  Student achievement, which includes NOCTI, industry credentials, program completion rate, non-traditional completion, job placement, academic skill attainment and the other mandated Perkins V performance indicators, as well as the indicators assigned to the Future Ready PA Index.  Section 3 (2 hours):  Business-Education Relations, which includes Labor market data, cooperative education program, work-based learning, community service, and business/industry partnerships.   It will be delivered online through 10 hours of pre-recorded presentations and interviews with subject matter experts, and 20 hours of job embedded assignments, which includes time for the culminating project.
