DESCRIPTION:
Equity in CTE for Non-traditional (Gender) Students is a 35-hour PIL and will be delivered in three sections: Preparation, Recruitment, and Retention. Each section is comprised of seven hours of pre-recorded presentations and interviews with subject matter experts and includes 28 hours of job-embedded assignments. In section 1, instruction will include the rationale for gender diversity and equity due to its importance to student self-image, student aspirations and academic performance, as well as economic development and financial independence, beyond it just being the right thing to do. The lessons will also explain details for Title IX from the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights and Perkins V. In Section 2, participants will grasp the relationship between gender equity, the career education and work standards, and the important factors that influence students’ decisions in their course selections and career goals. Finally, in Section 3, participants will be exposed to the importance that role models make in student self-image and confidence by confirming that they are as capable as any gender at achieving financial security and independence through high-skill, high-wage careers.
