Hearing Loss 101

Ever see an interpreter on tv or at an event? Know someone who often says, “you are mumbling” and asks you to repeat yourself? Talked with someone who has a lot of trouble navigating group conversations? These are all common signs of hearing loss, which can affect any person at any age. In this session, we will discuss the impacts of hearing loss, American Sign Language, assistive technology, communication strategies, captioning, and interpreters. And we can’t forget about two of our most frequently asked questions: What are reasonable accommodations? and What constitutes effective communication? By the end of our 75 minutes together, you will have learned:

  • How hearing loss impacts daily living.
  • The tools, technology, and resources available to assist persons living with hearing loss.
  • More about American Sign Language and sign language interpreters.
