The Complete Certified International Property Specialist Designation, Sept. 22 - Sept. 26

Expand your business with the Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) Designation.

Course Note: In order to receive this designation, you must be a member of the National Association of REALTORS®. Non-members can take these courses but will not be awarded the REALTOR® family designation.

To be eligible for the CIPS Designation, you must complete 2 Core courses and 3 elective courses.

Individual courses may be taken separately for $159 ($179 after 9/15), WA State CE credits - 7.5/per course.
All class times are 8:30am - 5:00pm. Please call the SKCR office at 425-974-1011 to register for individual courses.

The CIPS Designation

Core Courses:

  • Global Real Estate: Local Markets, Sept. 22
    Coursenote: This course is the prerequisite course for the CIPS Designation. You must take this course before taking any other CIPS courses. Upon completion of this course, you will receive elective credit towards the ABR and CRS designation (applies to U.S. members only).

    This introductory course offers you an overview of the international real estate business environment, including capital flow, currencies, government regulations and cultures. Topics such as international brokerage, networking, marketing, and selling will also be discussed.

  • Global Real Estate: Transaction Tools, Sept. 23
    This course provides you with the tools needed to present investment information to international clients—in their currency and area. You will learn how to measure investment performance, prepare financial projections, and understand the effects of taxes and exchange rates on investment.

Elective Courses
(3 of the 4 regional elective course are required to receive CIPS Designation):

  • Europe & International Real Estate, Sept. 24
    This course provides information on working with clients in Western and Central Europe. It Covers the European Union and its impact on international real estate, along with economic and real estate trends, networking and relationships, and marketing and selling practices.

  • Asia/Pacific & International Real Estate, Sept. 25
    This course addresses real estate practices in Asia and the Pacific with emphasis on cultural influences, economic trends and assessment of investment opportunities. An extra chapter on working with the Japanese is also included.

  • The Americas & International Real Estate, Sept. 26
    This course offers practical information for professionals who work with Caribbean, North, Central, and South American investors. Historical and cultural influences, regional relationship, and investment opportunities are covered along with a special focus on Mexico.

Biography:

Born in China, lived in Hong Kong and educated in Canada, May has lived in the U.S. since 1974. Prior to becoming a REALTOR®, May worked for a number of multinational companies building her skills in global transactions. May is fluent in Chinese, speaking several dialects including Mandarin and Cantonese.

Since 2001, May has been a Certified Instructor of Real Estate Continuing Education for the Washington REALTORS® and the Seattle King County Association of REALTORS®. May taught her own courses of "Selling Real Estate in a Multicultural World" and FHA Essentials. Additionally, she is a certified NAR instructor having taught " At Home with Diversity", "Expand your Market", "Risk Reduction: International Business Affecting your Local Market", and "Employer Assisted Housing". Two of her current course curriculums are the CIPS (Certified International Property Specialist) Institute and The Business of U.S. Real Estate.

May is the Past President of the Greater Seattle Chinese Chamber of Commerce and a Founding Board Member of the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) Washington Chapter. A life-long community volunteer, May is the proud recipient of the 2007 Seattle King County Association of REALTORS® Affiliate Community Service Award and the 2010 Cultural Awareness Award.
