2014 Holiday Event

Dec 04, 2014 08:00am -
Dec 04, 2014 01:30pm
(GMT-6)

Event Description

December 4, 2014
Madison Marriott West

Our members will take center stage at this event!
Several members will share successes, challenges and learning moments encountered while managing associations. We'll take their practical stories of association management and apply them to our own organizations. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from each other. Be ready for a fun, casual, show and tell.

Here's what we've confirmed so far....

The 6 Ps of Social Media for Associations
Michael DiFrisco, Chief Marketing Officer, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD)
Associations and boards continue to struggle with the age old question: “Where’s the ROI?” This is especially true for social media. Michael DiFrisco will share the story of AACD’s phenomenal success using social media to help create awareness of the benefits of cosmetic dentistry and AACD membership. Discover how the Academy became the envy of the dental industry with its robust social presence and performance. Do you want to know what the 6 Ps of social media are? Attend and learn, we aren't giving it away here!

A Meeting Planner’s Opus: Orchestrating the Many Facets of a Dynamic Medical Program

Marechiel Santos-Lang, Association Specialist, AMPED; Client: Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis

Having just returned from a global conference that welcomed nearly 9,000 registrants, Marechiel Santos-Lang will walk us through the unique challenges of planning a large scientific program, the complications of higher than expected registration numbers and the advantages and obstacles of collaborating with dozens of outside vendors to bring it to fruition. From food shortages to lost shipments, learn how she and her staff managed the event with determination and grace and made it the most successful program of its kind to-date. Whether your organization holds large or small-scale events, her lessons learned are sure to benefit you.

The Circle of Life: Maximizing Your Volunteer Cadre

Ingrid Danler, Associate Director of Operations, Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM)
Volunteer leaders commit to an organization when they have something to do and feel like they are making meaningful contributions to a cause.  It can get tricky, though, for staff to micromanage all of the tasks and projects of volunteer leaders while keeping them inspired, motivated and productive. Often, goals and strategic direction from one leadership segment are mistranslated or fail to receive buy-in from other segments. The Circle of Life is a process developed by the ASFPM over the course of 35 years, to create an annual cycle for developing goals and objectives in synch with the strategic plan and annual budgets, then translated to various committees for inclusion in their own annual work plans. Having a well-scripted structure ensures that volunteers are invested in the cause, expectations are clearly set and meetings are a safe haven for sharing and collaboration.

Don’t Give Anything Away for Free! Or Should You? A Case Study on Free Registration
Alicia Sukup, Association Specialist, Executive Director Inc. (EDI); Client: American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASGCT)
Association professionals are told to think about the value of membership and the value of meetings and to avoid giving away those valued benefits for free. But, what if you did? Alicia Sukup will discuss why ASGCT offered free registration to its early career members, how one president justified the idea and passed a $200,000 deficit budget through his board, and the effect of the decision on annual meeting attendance and membership.

Community Outreach

Middleton Outreach Ministry
For our Holiday Event, the WSAE Community Outreach committee is partnering with the Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM). MOM is a non-profit group that leads a community-wide effort to prevent homelessness and end hunger throughout Middleton, West Madison and Cross Plains. MOM provides — free of charge — food, clothing, housing assistance, emergency financial assistance and special services. MOM was established in 1980, by a local church, and in 2007 transitioned into a business-based organization both at the Board and leadership levels, to meet growing needs. Middleton Outreach Ministry, Inc., is a registered 501(c)3 organization.

The WSAE Outreach Committee is encouraging you to get involved and make a donation that helps MOM improve our local community. While there are many needs, we’ve selected some that will help really make a difference.  See the needs list here. Consider doing these yourself or get your staff involved with a larger drive. Please bring all items to the Holiday Event. We’ll be joined at lunch by a representative from MOM.
