By now, everyone is familiar with the EPA Lead requirements, but how many of you are familiar with asbestos issues? Interestingly, when it comes to government guidelines, almost the same requirements apply to asbestos as to lead, but there are more regulatory risks when dealing with asbestos.
Sometimes considered a forgotten environmental issue, asbestos is a substance not to be taken lightly, and although building codes have nearly eliminated this hazardous material, it’s still “out there” and restoration / renovation contractors need to be aware of its potential health and other hazards. This workshop is geared to help restoration contractors in dealing with asbestos issues when performing mitigation and restoration in older buildings. Our presenter, Tom Peter, MS, CIH from RIA’s Environmental Council, will delve into the:
- Background of Asbestos, and when it contains other materials
- Assessment – Inspection – Testing
- Asbestos Abatement
- Employee Training and Education
- Review of Regulatory Requirements
Bottom line: Disturbing asbestos in a building can cost your company a lot of money. Attend this webinar and get an overview of asbestos issues that will help you minimize your risks from disturbing asbestos. Don’t put your head in a hole in the ground -- you still need to deal with this issue so pack your lunch room and invite your project managers and field supervisors so they know what to do when they are working in older buildings as well!
