Speaker Information

Shannon Vann, CTR, BS svann@naaccr.org

Shannon has worked in disease surveillance for more than 20 years with the majority of that time spent at cancer registry work. She currently manages the education and training program for NAACCR, and in that position designs and acts as faculty for training activities. As the field staff supervisor for the Iowa Cancer Registry and for the Illinois State Cancer Registry, she designed and presented training activities for registry staff as well as for data submitters. As an independent contractor, she created training materials for various registry organizations.

Jim Hofferkamp, CTR, BA jhofferkamp@naaccr.org

Jim has nearly 17 years of registry experience. He worked for the Illinois Department of Public Health from January of 1994 through October of 2006. He was with the Adult Blood Lead Registry for approximately one year before joining the Illinois State Cancer Registry. For the next 11 years he worked as a field staff representative conducting casefinding audits and re-abstracting studies, death certificate follow-back staff and as the training coordinator. He helped develop a training program that included individual on-site training, 15-20 workshops a year, a program for reviewing cases abstracted by new cancer incidence reporters and provided phone support for registrars.

Jim joined the NAACCR staff in October of 2006 as a trainer. Working closely with Shannon Vann, he helps develop training materials, conduct webinars and live presentations. Jim also provides support for the NAACCR Call for Data, CINA Editorial subcommittee, Education Committee, Registry Operations and the Edits Subcommittee. He also coordinates the Process Improvement Program and the Mentor Fellowship Program.
