MAAO Legislative Agenda 2019-2020
The new 2019-20 Legislative Session in Massachusetts has begun and MAAO has filed a set of bills to address a number of issues that Assessors across the state have brought forward. The bill filing deadline was last Friday and now Legislators have until February 1st to co-sponsor’ bills.

FY2020 MAAO Executive Board Elections
The MAAO By-Laws require that the Nominating Committee name candidates for the two open positions of Executive Board and at least one name for President Elect (the current President Elect automatically moves into the Presidency). The Nominating Committee has put forward the following names (please click on the name to see their biography):

This year we will be using an electronic ballot! You will receive more information on the election process in March. Ballots will go out by April 1st and will conclude on May 1st!

IAAO is Coming to Boston in 2022!!
The local Massachusetts Chapter of IAAO along with support from every New England State Association and Chapter has made a proposal to have the 2022 IAAO conference here in Boston. The presentation was made to the Executive Board of IAAO on November 15th and we were chosen to host the convention. This conference may be 4 years away, but there is a lot to do and I hope the local host committee can count on you. Lane Partridge, MAA, President, Massachusetts Chapter of the IAAO and Bill Mitchell, MAA, RMA, President of MAAO, will be co-chairing the committee. They are looking for others to serve on the committee. Mass Chapter of the IAAO Offering
IAAO Course 402 – Tax Policy This course offers strategies for assisting in the effective formulation and implementation of tax policies and provides the context in which property tax policy is established. During this course, students will use analytical tools, including sound theory to guide decision-making and creating workable solutions, to explain the effects of proposed property tax changes. This course is designed for assessment administrators and students of taxation, as well as professional policy advisors who guide and make decision in the area of tax policy on a regular basis. Recommended textbook: Fundamentals of Tax Policy (FMA) Continuing Education: 33.50 CE with exam / 30 CE no exam. Who should attend this Course? Assessing Personnel who want to expand their job knowledge, and who are looking for professional advancement In addition, this course is a requirement for those seeking an Assessment Administration Specialist (AAS) designation from the IAAO.
