Welcome to the National Hispanic Health Foundation

The National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) established its Foundation, a 501c3 organization, in 1994 as the National Hispanic Medical Foundation to develop educational and research activities. In 2000, the name was changed to the National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF). In 2006, NHHF was affiliated with the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, New York University.

The mission of the NHHF is to improve the health of Hispanics and other underserved. Our aim is to provide a unique leadership role marshalling the creative energy of Hispanic researchers from around the country and to provide the insights and strategies that can translate into a healthier Hispanic population and quality care for the underserved..

The Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship Program  is the only national scholarship program targeted at Hispanic students who are committed to careers in health care - medicine, nursing, dentistry, public health, public policy and pharmacy.

There is a dearth of Hispanic health professionals in the United States. Only four percent of all physicians, three percent of all dentists, and two percent of all total nurses are Hispanic. We must increase these numbers. The National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF) has developed a unique program to award scholarships to talented students, the future leaders in health care..

NHHF, the 501c3 arm of the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), is building on NHMA's network in developing The Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship, which rewards students in health policy and health professional programs for exceptional academic performance, leadership, and commitment to their community. NHHF is located at the New York Academy of Medicine and is affiliated with the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, New York University, which has developed leaders in public service, public health, and health services research arenas.
