Grandparents Rights in Pennsylvania:
More than Just the Grandkids

Wednesday, May 18
12 pm - 1 pm Eastern Daylight Time

Presented by:
Kimberly J. Krzyzaniak, Esquire

Program Description
The point of this CLE is to educate members, and their clients, to look at all of the ways that grandparents do provide support (willingly and unwillingly, at times) to help their children and their grandchildren and to protect the grandparents. In today’s society, the roles and tasks of grandparents vary wildly. Depending on the specific facts of the family, these roles can range from visits, to financial support, to having grandchildren live full-time with the grandparents. Pennsylvania is one of the few states that provide specific legal rights to grandparents who have taken on the role of a parent; need to take a more active role in the lives of their grandchildren; or who have been cut out of their grandchildren’s lives by the parents. We will also discuss when grandparents are eligible for head of household status and when they can claim a dependent on their tax return.
