Program Description

This program will provide an overview of estate planning for retirement benefits including a discussion of several recent cases impacting planning for such benefits.  The program will focus on planning for traditional and Roth IRAs and will cover the fundamentals of designating IRA beneficiaries, the computation of post-death required minimum distributions, planning for a surviving spouse, strategies to maximize the potential income tax deferral for beneficiaries of IRAs, the mechanics of naming a trust as a beneficiary of an IRA (both conduit trusts and accumulation trusts), creditor protection issues, planning for the charitably inclined client and the advantages and disadvantages to the various techniques discussed.
