Course Description
SmolenPlevy Principal and AAA-CPA Member,
Dan Ruttenberg, will discuss his recent US Supreme Court case involving the failure of a decedent to change his beneficiary resulting in proceeds going to ex-wife instead of current wife. It is the doomsday scenario that all Trust & Estate attorneys fear, which Dan ended up being the one having to argue the case in front of the US Supreme Court.

About the Speaker
Daniel H. Ruttenberg
SmolenPlevy
Daniel H. Ruttenberg is a principal with the law firm of SmolenPlevy in Tysons Corner, Virginia. His practice areas include succession planning for businesses, general corporate law, estate planning, and estate administration. Mr. Ruttenberg argued Hillman v. Maretta before the Supreme Court of United States, which is a precedent setting estate administration case. He is a member of the Bar in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant by the State of Maryland. Mr. Ruttenberg received his Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Accounting and Finance from the University of Maryland. He earned his Juris Doctor with Honors from George Mason University School of Law and his Master of Laws in Taxation with Distinction from Georgetown University Law Center. Mr. Ruttenberg argued Hillman v. Maretta, 133 S.Ct. 1943 (2013) before the Supreme Court of the United States. He has been recognized as a "Legal Elite" by Washington Smart CEO Magazine, as a "Top Lawyer" by Northern Virginia Magazine and as a "Top Young Lawyer in Virginia" by Super Lawyers. Mr. Ruttenberg has had several articles published in various business periodicals as well as the North Dakota Law Review. He is also regularly interviewed by the media for his insights and expertise on important legal issues. Mr. Ruttenberg served as President of the Fairfax Bar Association and currently serves as Vice President of the charity, Devotion To Children. | |

CONTINUING EDUCATION INFORMATION
AAA-CPA continuing education programs are designed to meet the needs of Attorneys and CPAs and to qualify for credit as CPE, (M)CLE, and CE. Of course, the decisions of various state authorities determine the actual credit granted. There are no prerequisites or advance preparation requirements for this course.
Accounting CPE/Legal CLE/MCLE/CFP CE
The American Association of Attorney-CPAs is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors through its website www.learningmarket.org. A brochure with full details of the program is available from the association at 888-288-9272. These programs meet the NASBA standards of 1 (50 minute) hour of instruction. If you require CLE in a state not mentioned, please call our national office and we will do our best to arrange for credit in your state.
