Membership Dues Information

To apply for membership in the American Academy of Osteopathy, download one of the membership applications listed below, and return the completed application to AAO Membership Liaison Susan Lightle by emailing it to SLightle@academyofosteopathy.org, by faxing it to (317) 879-0563, or by mailing it to 3500 DePauw Blvd., Suite 1100, Indianapolis, IN 46268-1136. Print all information clearly in blue or black ink.

The following table describes the membership categories for your reference.

Full members shall be those who meet the requirements listed below:

a)   have graduated from a U.S. college of osteopathic medicine accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA);

b)   have made proper application for membership in the Academy; and

c)     have paid their current dues and assessments.

Associate members are those individuals who are graduates of accredited schools of medicine, dentistry or podiatry who have made written application; doctors of philosophy or education and other non-doctoral personnel holding teaching, research and administrative positions in AOA-accredited hospitals and colleges; administrative employees of affiliated organizations and divisional societies; and any other professionals as determined by the Board of Trustees. Associate Members shall pay dues equal to the dues of Full Members and receive all Academy publications, newsletters and announcements given to Full Members. Associate Members may attend all Academy educational meetings by paying the registration fee for Full Members. Associate Members must have an AAO member as a sponsor or reference. Associate Members shall be entitled to the privileges of the Full Membership except the right to vote or hold office.

International affiliate members are those osteopaths who have graduated from an international school of osteopathy, who hold a limited license to practice, who have made written application for membership, and who have met the criteria and approval of the Board of Trustees. Such individuals shall be members of an American Academy of Osteopathy-approved registry (Europe or Australia/New Zealand) and are entitled to the privileges of full membership, except the right to vote or hold office. Persons who have graduated from an osteopathic school in Asia, South America, Africa or Canada, please see member type "Supporter." International Affiliate Members must have an AAO member as a sponsor or reference.

Associate-international members are those physicians who hold a medical degree from an international school of medicine, dentistry or podiatry, who have made written application for membership and who have met the criteria and approval of the Board of Trustees. Such individuals are entitled to the privileges of full membership, except the right to vote or hold office. Persons who have graduated from an osteopathic school in Japan or Canada, please see member type "Supporter." International Associate Members must have an AAO member as a sponsor or reference.

A supporter member is any osteopathic or allopathic physician who is not trained in the U.S. and is not a member of the two categories above (such as one trained in South America, Asia, Africa or Canada). A supporter can also be a non-US trained DDS, physical therapist, registered nurse, health care institution director or any other non-DO or non-MD who would like to support the AAO. Supporters are entitled to the privileges of full membership except the right to vote or hold office. Supporter members must have an AAO member as a sponsor or reference.
