AAP Bulletin Winter 2016

From The President: AAP Annual Meeting Theme

Amin Azzam, MD, 1/26/2017

I hope you're enjoying this time before the winter holiday rush.  Like many of you, I'm busy with teaching my medical students, caring for my patients, and working with staff and faculty colleagues on all the various administrative processes of psychiatric education.

To those of you who joined us in Puerto Rico this past September for our 2016 Annual Meeting, I hope you enjoyed the plenaries, workshops, and of course the karaoke!  Despite all the challenges and the unexpected power outage, seeing (and hearing) everyone cut loose is one of the reasons that I love the AAP.  We're all helping one another grow as psychiatric educators while simultaneously becoming closer professional colleagues.  I return from our meeting every year inspired and rejuvenated for another year of educating.  Our communications team is currently working on a mechanism for members to share their photos from AAP 2016 with each other.  Stay tuned.

Speaking of the meeting, it's never too early to mark your calendars for next year's meeting.  We'll be in Denver from September 6 - 9, 2017.  Note that this falls in the week immediately after Labor Day.  Consider bringing your loved ones with you for a 3-day holiday weekend getaway prior to the start of our meeting.

Rather than unilaterally declaring a theme, this year I asked participants in Puerto Rico to help me brainstorm something that playfully acknowledged that we'll be in the "mile high city."  A whopping 40 creative suggestions later, we have selected "High Stakes, Higher Hopes for Psychiatric Education."  Now use those creative muscles to start brainstorming your submissions!

Don't hesitate to let me know ways that the AAP can continue to support your academically-oriented careers.
