Academic Psychiatry: Looking Back on 2015 and Looking Ahead to 2016

In 2015 Academic Psychiatry received more than 325 new manuscript submissions and published nearly 750 pages in its print issues. The impact factor remained steady, at 1.206.

The new volume year for the journal will include special collections on Wellness, Addictions Treatment Training, Medical Student Education, Global Mental Health, and Forensic Psychiatry Training, as well as special clusters of papers on Caring for Vulnerable Populations, Social Media, Leadership and Gender Inclusiveness, Residents as Teachers, Cultural Competence, Conflicts of Interest, Stigma, Suicide, and Geriatric Psychiatry.

In 2015 the journal completed a nationwide search for a volunteer associate editor to work with the full editorial team. More than two dozen interested individuals submitted letters of intent and current curriculum vitae to the journal’s editorial office. The editors reviewed all the candidates initially and then identified a smaller group for interviews. In 2016 the journal will welcome the following new editorial staff members:

  • Associate Editors: Adam Brenner, M.D.; Anthony P.S. Guerrero, M.D.

  • Assistant Editors: Rashi Aggarwal, M.D.; Mary Morreale, M.D.; Steven Schlozman, M.D.

The journal’s full leadership team is described in the journal article “The Editorial Leadership of Academic Psychiatry,” available online at http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40596-015-0467-x and to be printed in the February 2016 issue.

We encourage AAP members to contact the editorial office with manuscript ideas and to register on Editorial Manager to serve as a peer reviewer for the journal: https://www.editorialmanager.com/acps/.

Call for Papers: Forensic Psychiatry Training
Forensic psychiatry offers a means of providing valuable experiences to trainees of all levels and needed services to the most marginalized members of our community. In keeping with the overall mission of Academic Psychiatry, papers on the topic of training in forensic psychiatry should be evidence-based, drawing upon data and outcome measures, and/or involve multiple sites. Comprehensive reviews and pilot projects are also welcome. All submissions will be peer reviewed in keeping with the journal’s policy. (Requested by 4/1/16)

Academic Psychiatry Invites Black-and-White Art Submissions
Original art pieces may be considered for publication in Academic Psychiatry if they pertain to and advance the journal’s mission. The journal supports work that furthers knowledge and stimulates evidence-based advances in academic medicine in six key domains: education, leadership, finance and administration, career and professional development, ethics and professionalism, and health and well-being. Art pieces must be black and white only and should be submitted via e-mail to the editorial office at AcadPsych@gmail.com. Artists retain the copyright to their works and provide permission to the publisher to reproduce their work in the journal. All artwork submissions are subject to review and the approval of the journal’s Arts and Creative Works Advisor and the Editor-in-Chief. Publication in the journal is not guaranteed.
