2018 AAP Annual Meeting: From the Local Arrangements Chair

Carl Chan, MD, 6/29/2018

The Medical College of Wisconsin Psychiatry Department welcomes you to Milwaukee for the AAP Annual Meeting.  We hope you will allow time to enjoy the many attractions our city has to offer.  During the next few weeks, I will be describing in greater detail some of those sites and activities.

One word of caution: if you plan to arrive during the Labor Day weekend, please make hotel reservations early.  The City will be celebrating the 125th anniversary of Harley Davison and Milwaukee will be awash with the rumble of motorcycles.  Festivities end on Labor Day so most HOGs (Harley Owners Groups) will be gone before AAP starts.

Some of the many local offerings include Frank Lloyd Wright homes and buildings, golf courses that challenge even professionals (US Open held last at Erin Hills and Whistling Straits hosted the PGA Championship), professional sports (Brewers play the Nationals, Cubs and Giants at their retractable dome home, Miller Park, the week of AAP), theater (Milwaukee Repertory Theater premieres Songs for Nobodies), museums (Milwaukee Public Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum, Harley Davison Museum and more), parks (take a six mile bike ride up and down Milwaukee’s lakefront), breweries (both national and craft), and dozens of quality restaurants.

Quickie quiz: What do Golda Meir, James Lovell (Apollo 13), Liberace, and the Zucker Brothers (Air Plane) have in common?  Answer: all are from Milwaukee.

If you have any early questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  My email is cchan@mcw.edu.  We look forward to seeing you.
