The design and construction of an engineered roadbed (subgrades and subbases) is essential to the long-term performance and smoothness of concrete pavements. This 90-minute webinar will cover the basics of subgrade and subbase design and construction, including basic terminology, and basic design principles and their impacts on pavement thickness, durability, and overall quality.
The program will emphasize proper selection and application of subbases and the appropriate consideration of subgrade variables for concrete pavements used for streets, roads, and highways. It emphasizes the major objective of obtaining long-lasting uniform support for a concrete pavement. Subgrade soil material classification and problems (expansion, heaving, etc.) are discussed in detail, along with many various options for stabilized and unstabilized subbases, and the materials of which they are composed. Multiple reasons for avoiding the use of permeable subbases (a.k.a. drainable or open-graded subbases) also are presented.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
Contractors (particularly construction managers, superintendents, foremen, and estimators), agency personnel, and others involved in or with an interest in the important considerations and processes that must be checked or otherwise addressed before paving with concrete.
This 90-minute training event is scheduled for Monday, April 5, 2012. The event will be held at 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Eastern) | Noon to 1:30 p.m. (Central) | 10 a.m. to 11:30 (Pacific). Although this is a 90-minute module, please allow extra time -- as much as two hours total -- for questions and administrative details.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CREDIT
The American Concrete Pavement Association offers 1.5 professional development hour (PDH) for the completion of this webinar. PDH credits are awarded upon satisfactory completion of a 10-question exam administered after the webinar. Every registered engineer has a personal responsibility to assess the applicability of each element of the program attended to their particular professional development need, and, if appropriate, to maintain a record of qualifying PDH's for license renewal documentation.
