Description
This fast-paced workshop is for MT-BCs who own and have read the SEMTAP (Special Education Music Therapy Assessment Process) Handbook. New supplementary materials will be provided as part of a review of the process along with scripted answers to specific challenges being offered by special education administrators.
Objectives:
Attendees will:
- 1. become more aware of key elements in a successful administration of the SEMTAP. (CBMT Domains I:B:1, 2, 5, 7, 13)
- 2. be able to present SEMTAP findings coherently and completely. (CBMT Domains: I:C:1-5)
- 3. be able to answer concerns from special education administrators regarding criterion-based assessment and applicability of federal law to music therapy assessment and recommendations. (CBMT Domains: IV:B:1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 20)
Schedule:
- 15 minutes: Presenter and attendee introductions, including SEMTAP experience and areas of resistance from administrators.
- 60 minutes: didactic / interactive: Review of the SEMTAP process with questions for participants on key elements.
- 10 minutes: BREAK
- 20 minutes: didactic: federal and state laws, recent case studies in related service assessment – plus strategies for answering questions and challenges from administrators. Distribution of SEMTAP supplementary materials.
- 50 minutes: interactive: role play practice in answering questions and challenges from administrators
- 25 minutes: Q & A, CMTE procedures
