Description

 

For older adults experiencing loss associated with aging and long-term care, songwriting provides an avenue for expressing thoughts, feelings, desires, and memories and can enhance bonds of those in a group. This intervention can be use with persons with cognitive decline and those experiencing physical disability while maintaining cognitive function.

Objectives:

Will be able to

1. Define the theoretical basis for the use of songwriting with older adults II.A.2.e.f.g.o.q.u.x.y.aa.ac.ak.ao.ap.aq.av.
2. Describe three different formats for lyric writing II.A.5.a.d.e.f.g.k.x.
3. Identify components of song writing and specific protocols for using with older adults. I.D.10

Schedule:

Part I. Introductory work and songs. 20 minutes
Part II. Literature and Research - understanding song writing in music therapy practice. 40 minutes
Break
Part III. Songwriting Structure and examples. (Focus on individual song writing with practice exercises). 90 minutes

Part IV. Group Songwriting and practice in small groups. 60 minutes
