A model of music therapy services at Mayo Clinic is highlighted in the context of Mayo's history and mission. Learn about a bold vision for medical care and a service delivery model where music therapists actively bridge to both the community and the Clinic. Transportation to Mayo Clinic and lunch provided. 
 

Objectives:

Objective #1: Participants will analyze two factors or elements of MT practice at Mayo Clinic that support both mission alignment and provide the patient with ethical care, authentic, and culturally competent care. (CBMT Domain IV. B. 4)

Objective #2: Participants will be able to describe at least two approaches the MT-BC may pursue to effectively evaluate the MT’s role across various clinical units/departments in a complex acute care services setting. (CBMT Domain I. D. 4)

Objective #3: Participants will be able to identify at least two ways the MTs serving Mayo clinic and the community grow and sustain effective professional relationships with the interprofessional team and community members. (CBMT Domain IV. B. 8)

Objective #4: Participants will be able to describe the model of MT services delivery at Mayo Clinic – a vertically integrated healthcare provider. (CBMT Domain IV. B. 9)

Schedule

The CMTE is planned as a half-day CMTE in terms of credits, but is scheduled as a full day destination workshop. See the proposed schedule, below.

1100-1200: Music Therapy overview at Mayo (procedural support, hospice, palliative care, pediatrics, heartbeat recordings, diversity/multicultural, end of life, MH, etc.)*
1200-1245: Catered LUNCH
1245-1345:  TOUR: Gonda & Mayo buildings w/ a few planned mini-talks along the way*
1345-1415: Humanities in Medicine overview and interface with music therapy*
1415-1445: Palliative Medicine overview and interface with music therapy*
1445-1500: Transfer and break
1500-1530:    TOUR of St Mary's Hospital and historic chapel*
1530-1630: TOUR of Healing Rhythms Clinic  - Leadership from within: How the Rochester service delivery model of music therapy bridges to the community and greater region*
1630-1800: Shuttle back to Minneapolis and assessment.
