W. Energize Your School-Based Music Therapy Services

Description

Do your school-based services need a tune up? Energize your tool box to support students across all educational environments, considering both face-to-face and virtual learning settings. Upgrade your skills in school-wide programming, assessment, user-friendly IEPs, goal-based session planning, documentation, effective communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Leave this session ready to communicate, advocate and re-invigorate!

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will describe the roles of music therapy in school settings. [CBMT Domains: V.B.3, V.B.4, V.B.6, V.B.8, V.B.17]
  2. Participants will identify at least 3 strategies for implementation of school-wide programming, goal-based session planning, and/or supports within school music therapy settings (face-to-face and virtual). [CBMT Domains: II.D.2b, II.D.3, II.D.6a-e, II.D.10, II.D.11, III.B.1-7, IV.B.3]
  3. Participants will describe assessment, documentation, and reporting formats that are effective in school settings. [CBMT Domains: II.B.1-13, II.C.3, II.D.7]
  4. Participants will identify at least 3 effective techniques for communicating with administrators, parents, related service professionals, and community members about music therapy’s roles within the school setting. [CBMT Domains: II.A.2, II.C.5, IV.A.7, V.B.9, V.B.18]


Schedule:

  • 10 minutes: Overview of CMTE
  • 20 minutes: Brief overview of special education laws and how it translates to music therapy service delivery models, including telehealth and remote learning
  • 10 minutes: Experiential
  • 10 minutes: BREAK
  • 20 minutes: The role of music therapy in school-wide programming and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • 10 minutes: Experiential
  • 10 minutes: BREAK
  • 60 minutes: Assessment & documentation in IEP-based and programmatic services
  • 10 minutes: BREAK
  • 60 minutes: Goal-based session development with experientials, including both face-to-face and remote learning strategies
  • 10 minutes: BREAK
  • 50 minutes: Communicating the roles and outcomes of music therapy, including real-life experiences
  • 20 minutes: Questions and evaluations
