Description

Explore ethical concerns and relevance of "Hate Music" to the personal and professional lives of music therapists and clients.  Learn what Hate Music is and develop strategies for dealing with this type of music.

Objectives:

Objective #1: Participants will be able to define what is meant by “Hate Music” (CBMT Domains I.B.d.h.i, I.C.4, and I.D.10)
Objective #2: Participants will be able to describe how AMTA/CBMT documents provide guidance to music therapists relevant to "Hate Music" (i.e. nondiscrimination policy, code of ethics, standards of practice, CBMT domains). (CBMT Domains IV.B.7 and IV.B.12, )
Objective #3: Participants will be able to share strategies and ideas for how to deal with “Hate Music”, if encountered in music therapy settings. (CBMT Domain IV.A.2)


Schedule:

Introduction (presenters, releases, disclaimers, importance, genesis, review of objectives) (15 minutes)
AMTA/CBMT documents providing guidance (15 minutes)
Defining "Hate Music"  (15 minutes)
Past examples from historical sheet music archives (15 minutes)
BREAK (15 minutes)
Recent examples and discussion. (30 minutes)
BREAK (15 minutes)
Treatment strategies (45 minutes)
