Now in its third year, the AMTA Leadership Academy gives everyone a chance to develop and deepen their leadership skills and capacity. Through a series of presentations by a diverse panel of leaders within our field, Leadership Academy participants will experience multiple frameworks for thinking about leadership and how to recognize and build critical skills in all areas of leadership!  Whether you have attended a previous Academy or not, this year’s Leadership Academy is sure to provide you with new information, insights, and connections to help you grow into the leader you desire to be in your work, your community, and in your life!

Learner Objectives:

1. Participants will identify their personal purpose and clarify their vision for leadership roles in their communities, work place and our association. IV. A.1. Assess areas for professional growth and set goals.
IV.A.5. Seek out and utilize supervision and/or consultation.
IV..B.20. Serve as a representative, spokesperson, ambassador, or advocate for the profession of music therapy.


2. Participants will enhance their professional development by exploring relevant theories, strategies, and approaches to leadership with colleagues. II.A.5.k. To achieve therapeutic goals: exercise leadership and/or group management skills.
IV. A.4.  Engage in collaborative work with colleagues. 
IV.A.5. Seek out and utilize supervision and/or consultation.
IV.B.7. Communicate with colleagues regarding professional issues.
IV.B.8. Maintain professional and effective working relationships with colleagues and community members.

3. Collaborate with colleagues to expand professional leadership networks and skills.  IV. A.4.  Engage in collaborative work with colleagues. 
IV.A.5. Seek out and utilize supervision and/or consultation.

1:15- 2:30 What does it mean to be a leader? Leadership Theories, Strategies and Stories

2:30-2:45 BREAK

2:45-4:00 Self-Discovery as a Leader – Your Personal Journey

4:00-4:15 BREAK

4:15-5:30 Ways to Lead from Any Chair – Determining your Next Steps



This annual gathering of inspiring presenters and amazing participants will support you in discovering your unique strengths and voice as a leader. The conversations and discussions will help you navigate on your journey of leadership and empower you to achieve at your highest potential!

The AMTA Academy experience will allow professionals at ALL levels to:
